Seat the husband held can be taken by the wife

Results announced by Ryan Nowland of the elections office give Gwen Owens the victory in her bid to fill the seat that her late husband, Dennis, held on the Walhalla City Council.  The tally had Owens at 87 votes; her challenger, Christy Marlow, 45 votes.  Ten write-in votes were counted.  Of those ten, Jessie Bunning received six.  The outcome remains unofficial, pending certification of all ballots tomorrow by the county board of canvassers.  Owens seeks to complete her husband’s late term and some of the things that he wanted accomplished before his death this year to COVID-19.  For Marlow, it was a first time brush in politics.  The 35-year Walhallan says she’ll run again.
