School lunches to increase by 10 cents

The cost of a school lunch in the Oconee public schools will increase by 10 cents a meal with the school year starting August 19. The announcement was made during last night’s meeting of the county trustees. As a district that takes part in the federal government’s free lunch program to students who qualify, Oconee has little choice in setting lunch prices, according to Dr. Michael Thorsland, superintendent. Gloria Moore, district finance officer, says in 2019-20 elementary school lunches will cost $2.20; secondary school lunches will be priced at $2.40.
