School calendar likely to change next year

Oconee school trustees have directed their superintendent to be ready next week to settle the questions about next year’s calendar. The trustees are considering a proposal to start middle and high schools one week early. And during a work session last night Dr. Michael Thorsland shared the results of staff and parent surveys. The district administration wants to get away from the constraints caused by a later opening—such as fewer instruction days before AP testing in May. But an earlier start date could force students, parents, and teachers to make changes to their summer break activities.
