SC 24 highway work proposed near Westminster

South Carolina DOT is placing plans for a travel safety improvement project before the public in the Westminster area.  An in-person meeting for improvement work proposed for SC 24/the West-Oak Highway, from the Greenfield Road to S-58 (the Fair Play Road), is planned between 3 and 7 pm Tuesday, May 4 in the Family Life Center of the Westminster First Baptist Church at 426 West-Oak Highway.  The public information meeting will have displays and handouts for viewing, and the public will have the chance to leave written comments.  The section of SC 24 is part of the state’s efforts to come up with engineering solutions to reduce the frequency for fatal and serious injury crashes.  Under consideration for the stretch of highway includes the following ideas:  widening and paving of the shoulders, wider and brighter pavement markings, rumble strips, improved clear zone, and additional guardrails.  Comments on the project will be accepted through May 26.  Besides the May 4 meeting, other ways to register a comment include through the DOT website, by both email and regular mail; and by filling out a comment card and dropping it in the comment box during the in-person meeting.
