According to Franklin County, Georgia Sheriff Steve Thomas, a chase that began in Anderson County, South Carolina on Saturday evening ended when a Franklin County deputy used a PIT maneuver on the suspect. Thomas said the vehicle, a Nissan Frontier, displayed a tag which belonged to a SUV. “At 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call that South Carolina Law enforcement was in pursuit southbound on I-85 entering Franklin County. South Carolina authorities reported the driver had tried to run over their officer and refused to stop. The Georgia State Patrol and Hart County Sheriff’s Office were requested to assist in the chase. Franklin County deputies set up at the southbound scales and performed a PIT maneuver as he attempted to exit from the southbound weigh station. They took the driver into custody without further incidence,” said Thomas. The driver was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center and has holds in place from multiple other agencies. “The subject, 44-year-old Billy Ray Allen of Greenville, South Carolina sits in the Franklin County Detention Center charged with DUI at this time. The Hart County Sheriff’s Office has placed a hold on Allen and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has placed a hold on Allen for aggravated assault of a peace officer and other traffic offenses,” said Thomas. Other charges could be pending in each of the jurisdictions.
