Samuel Odell Hunter

Salem, SC– Samuel Odell Hunter, 86, went home to be with the Lord on January 1st, 2023. Odell was born on June 30th, 1936 to Samuel and Irene Hunter in Jackson County. Odell worked in grading his entire life. His accomplishments include grading 19 golf courses in the Carolinas, local highways, and developments.  His passions included his church, gardening, and most importantly his family. In his later life he spent his time in Salem, South Carolina where he and Carol built their final home.

 

He is preceded in death by the love of his life Carol Hunter Watson, daughter Debra McCall, and brother Jerry Hunter. He is survived by his siblings Kent Hunter; Judy Anders; son Jeff Hunter; grandchildren Holly Hunter, Kayla Shaughnessy and husband Devin; great-grandchildren Ellie and Jaxon Shaughnessy.

 

A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6th from 5pm – 7pm at Cashiers Baptist Church, 213 US-64, Cashiers, NC 28717.

 

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 11am at Cashiers Baptist Church. Following the funeral his body will be laid to rest at the Upper Zachary Cemetery.
