Robert “Rob” Barry Stewart

Seneca, SC– Robert “Rob” Barry Stewart, born on August 5th, 1930, in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, December 17th, at his home in Seneca, South Carolina.

A true jack of all trades, Rob would try any new hobby or task without question but mastered the art of sailing, creating beautiful pieces through woodwork, playing golf, and maintaining a stunning garden, especially roses, year after year.

Rob worked as General Manager in the Oil Industry at National Transit, where he spent the entirety of his 25-year career. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a Corporal from 1952-1954. He was decorated with a Combat Infantry Badge, a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Marrying June Windsheimer in December of 1956, they shared four daughters, raising their family in western PA before relocating to the upstate of South Carolina in 1985. He delighted in their four grandchildren and became a brilliant jokester and storyteller in their company. As a dog lover, Rob owned Robbie and Winston, both pugs who became two of his most beloved pets. A gentleman in all circumstances, Rob was respected at home with his family, during his military service, and throughout his career, as well as his loyal and faithful giving to many charitable organizations. He often repeated sayings, making a point to make his parting greetings to his grandson always the same: “You’re a gentleman and a scholar, and there’s damn few of us left.”

Rob is preceded in death by parents, Samuel & Margaret Stewart; wife, June Stewart; siblings Marguerite Vresh, Arnie Stewart, Verne Stewart, Francis Stewart; and daughter, Margaret Stewart.  He is survived by daughters, Deborah Laan (Ronald), Roberta Socha (James), and Alice Travis (Raulston); grandchildren, Nicholas Socha (Katherine), Amanda Socha (Benny), Seth Travis (MacKenzie), and Allison Travis.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of the Foothills, and Marianne in particular.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/, an organization valued by Rob and his family.
