Road fee simply an option, not yet voted

During a meeting last night, the Walhalla mayor made clear that, as the city’s new budget stands, there will be no fee required of the owners of vehicles registered to Walhallans.  News of an option given the city leaders to help generate monies to pay for transportation and infra-structure projects apparently has already struck a nerve among some of the citizenry, and Mayor Edwards says he has received questions.  Responding last night to the mayor, City Administrator Brent Taylor says a proposed $30 dollar annual fee is included as an option in the new budget documents.  However, for it to become a new tax, would require a vote of the mayor and the council which has not yet taken place, if it does at all.  The city’s leaders will resume work on their 2020-21 budget during a workshop meeting tomorrow night at the Depot.
