Ride to Work Ministry unique to Oconee County

A non-profit group is at work in Oconee County to ensure that transportation is not an obstacle to those trying to find work. It is estimated that as many as 150 job seekers in Oconee County need reliable, affordable transportation. This is the mission statement of the Ride to Work Ministry: “provide temporary affordable transportation to residents of Oconee County so they can transition to stable employment with a living wage and become self sufficient.” In a presentation Friday to the board of the Oconee Economic Alliance, Steve Finger said, with the exception of the Syracuse, New York area, there’s no program like it anywhere. And he appealed to the Economic Alliance for financial support and volunteer drivers. “In the last year we have provided over 2,100 rides to and from work. We have 16 people graduate, meaning they kept their job and found their own way to work. We are currently carrying nine people, “ Finger said.
