RICHARD CHRISTENSEN

Westminster-Richard W. Christensen passed away peacefully at age 96 from Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home on April 15th, 2024.

 

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Phyllis E. Christensen.

 

Dick joined the Marines at the age of 17 during World War II, he worked at Ohio Rubber, New York Central, and has his own service garage. He later retired from the Willoughby Police Department in Ohio after 22 years of service in 1988. He was an avid sportsman, who excelled in golf and bowling. He enjoyed playing tennis, and racket ball, played softball way into his sixties, and enjoyed fishing in Canada and Lake Erie. As a pastime, he enjoyed working in his workshop crafting and making furniture and was known for his ability to fix anything.

 

He is also survived by his daughter, Beth A. Christensen (Phil Goelz); stepchildren, Becky Monahan (Daniel) and James E. Meyer (Dina); grandchildren, Jennifer Dostal (Russell), David H. Monahan, Kristin Violi (Brandon), Joseph I. Meyer, Mathew Cogan; great-grandson, Maxwell Rothstein, Cameron Rothstein, Wesley Violi, Cameron Violi; brother-in-law, Richard E. Mericle II.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anders and Jenny Christensen; his first wife, Margaret Kelly Christensen; his son, Richard W. Christensen Jr.; grandson, Shawn Oney; and four sisters and three brothers.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
