Rev. Alice Day

Dallas, NC — Rev. Alice Parker Day, daughter of the late Honorable Marshall Joyner Parker and Martha Nimmons Parker, passed away on Dec 16, 2021 in Atlanta, GA.

A native of Seneca, SC, she was a graduate of Columbia College (BA), Clemson University (MA), and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology (M.Div). After a career in academia, she was ordained as an elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, where she served as the senior pastor of numerous congregations across western North Carolina over the span of a 24-year career.

Alice’s faith defined her life. She lived it out with great integrity in both her professional and private lives, devoting her days to the dispensation of God’s grace to those in need of it with kindness, empathy, and compassion.

Even in the days leading up to her death, she was actively serving as the senior pastor of Puett United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she was a voracious reader, particularly enjoying the works of Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, and a wide variety of British mystery writers.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years: Derek P. Day, Sr., three children: Rebekah Alice Day, Capt. Derek Paul Day, Jr. (Alexandra), and the Rev’d Fr. Marshall Benjamin Day, and three grandchildren: Alice Layne Gardner, Liam Marshall Day, and Marshall James Day.

Her funeral will be held at Oconee Memorial Park on Dec 21, 2021 at 11:00 am.

A memorial service at Puett United Methodist Church in Dallas, NC will follow at a later date.
