Resource officers at all Oconee public schools

The new school year will be the first full year in which there will be a policeman in every Oconee public school. The Sheriff’s Office today announced the roster of school resource officers at 18 school locations, including the Oconee Academy and the Hamilton Career Center. Officers’ duties include the safety of students and staff and building positive relationships with law enforcement through drug education/prevention and the mentoring of students who face adversities in their lives. Students and parents are urged to familiarize themselves with their SRO and to report anything out of the ordinary to him or her. Public school classes in Oconee return on Monday. The first week is usually hectic, so everyone is reminded that there will be traffic and pedestrian activity in and around the school zones. For motorists, bus stops are places at which caution should be exercised.
