Replacing one holiday with another

Seneca’s elected leaders have given their preliminary approval to substituting one holiday for another.  In a special meeting, the city council last night agreed to drop Confederate Memorial Day observed in May as an official city holiday and replace it with Presidents’ Day in February.  In a presentation last night, city administrator Scott Moulder noted that while the Confederate day is a state holiday, Presidents’ Day is national holiday.  According to Moulder, another reason to allow non-essential city workers to be off Presidents’ Day is that in normal years the public schools are closed.  Because of a re-worked school calendar influenced by COVID, Presidents Day is a school day.
