Repeal of water quality advisory at Seneca Creek

Here’s an update from the Joint Regional Sewer Authority of an earlier post today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS:  ” Sample results confirm the water quality levels are normal at Seneca Creek following a sewer spill that occurred on October 12. An advisory was issued by the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority (OJRSA) following the release that alerted those in the area to avoid contact with the creek downstream of Davis Creek Road to Lake Hartwell as a precautionary measure. DHEC inspected the site and approved the removal of the advisory and signage that was placed near the site. The creek was tested for E. coli bacteria and the reports were submitted to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) with the sewer overflow report on Tuesday. The emergency was caused when a small section of broken concrete caused a sanitary sewer overflow near the intersection of US highways 123 and 76 and Davis Creek Road on Saturday. The debris fell to the bottom of a manhole and blocked the outlet pipe, causing approximately 15,600 gallons of wastewater to spill from the manhole. It is estimated that a maximum of 100-to-200 gallons may have reached the waterway.”
