Rat puts Seneca in a pickle

Seneca officials are apologizing to their sanitation customers.  City trucks were far behind on their pickup schedule yesterday, and circumstances are such that it’ll be Friday before they catch up.  Once again, the culprit appears to be a rat that chewed its way through the electrical wiring of one of the garbage trucks, forcing the city to shelve the truck for repairs.  It’s apparently not the first time that rodents, attracted by the smell of food waste, have made their way from the woods that adjoin the city’s public works complex into the components of the sanitation trucks.  A rat or rats is believed to have been responsible for an electric spark last September that damaged and destroyed part of the city’s garbage truck fleet.  Last night, in a report to the city council, administrator Scott Moulder said Seneca has temporarily acquired a replacement truck from Greenville and will rely on help from nearby Westminster and Walhalla the rest of this week.
