Rainy day account to balance budget

Oconee school trustees gave preliminary approval to a new budget to cover the next school year. That budget is to be presented tonight to the budget committee of Oconee County Council. At last night’s meeting of the trustees, district administrators announced the proposed budget calls for revenues of about $98 million dollars and expenses of about $99.5 million dollars. The plan is to make up the $1.5 million by tapping into the district’s fund balance, considered by some to be a rainy day account.
