Quilt of Valor awarded to James Singleton

Many know Oconee County’s James Singleton for his law enforcement career.  But if your memory is long you might remember that, as a young man, the retired county sheriff was a distinguished army soldier in some of the worst Vietnam War fighting.  His Bronze Star and Purple Heart help tell that story, but so does an additional honor bestowed on him yesterday in the courtroom of Singleton’s son, Danny, the Seneca municipal judge.  Dacusville, Pickens County residents Linda and Ronny Hall gave Singleton, now in his mid 70s, a Quilt of Valor.  Red, white, and blue quilts are sown in a way that they bring comfort to American veterans for their service in wars such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam.  Shy and modest by nature Singleton, at times yesterday, had to be cajoled to express his emotions and recall his Vietnam experience from the mid to late 1960s.
