Public schools monitor the coronavirus outbreak

Oconee public schools continue to monitor the outbreak of the coronavirus, although the virus has not yet become widespread in the U-S. Nevertheless, it’s important to be pro-active. The Oconee school district is working closely with South Carolina DHEC to stay informed of any developments and, as they are determined, to implement any recommendations or guidelines from either DHEC or the Centers for Disease Control. The local school district stresses the follow preventive measures: “As always, we encourage students, staff, and our community as a whole to practice proper hand washing (rubbing hands with soap underwater for at least 15 seconds); avoid frequent touching of the eyes, nose, and mouth; covering the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; and staying home when you’re sick. Students and staff are reminded to stay home from school for at least 24 hours after being fever free without medication.”
