Public schools are important partner of the YMCA

The Oconee School District is an important corporate partner of the Foothills YMCA under construction on the grounds of the Oconee Memorial Hospital. The public schools have made a 20-year commitment to the YMCA amounting to $3 million. The first payment, $150 thousand, was sent and received last summer. And Gloria Moore, the financial officer for the public schools, says the second payment will follow in the late spring or early summer of 2020.  In return, the facility will offer a venue for future Oconee high school swimming teams.  Perhaps, more important the aquatic center will teach youngsters, as early as third grade, to swim, a skill they can use to stay safe in water the rest of their lives.
