Psychological exam ahead for death case defendant

At least for now, no bond will be set in the case of a young man arrested this summer after a car crashed into a home near near Seneca and killed a woman who had gone to bed for the night. Judge McIntosh in the General Sessions Court made clear he won’t entertain the idea of setting bond for El Asia Muhammad until the young Easley man undergoes a mental health evaluation. The need for a psychological examination was introduced this morning when Muhammad’s attorney spoke in court about his client hearing voices in his head. Authorities filed multiple charges against Muhammad after the car he allegedly drove went off 123 at the Wells Highway struck and killed Vanessa Leanne Neimeyer as she slept. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said Muhammad was arrested after a short foot chase near the accident scene, and the resulting charges include the offense of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
