Property near Lavonia, Georgia eyed for casino

If gambling supporters win approval in Georgia, property just across Lake Hartwell from Oconee County potentially could see a casino resort.  Lake Hartwell WLHR in Lavonia reports an Atlanta developer has a lease agreement for 500 acres along the lake next to the Harbor Light Marina.  If two-thirds of Georgia’s state lawmakers favor a constitutional change, the proposition for a limited number of casinos in the state would land on the statewide ballot for November 2022.  Governor Kemp is no fan of legalized gambling and would have the authority to veto a favorable action in the House and the Senate.  WLHR quotes the Georgia Capitol Beat News as reporting that besides casinos, the resorts would include luxury hotels, entertainment venues, and retail shopping.
