PRISMA Health’s vaccine supply “extremely low”

101.7/WGOG has heard from a handful of Oconeeans that they, thru Prisma Health, have been able to acquire their first or second vaccines, or both, aimed at helping protect against coronavirus infections.  And today Prisma Health announces a milestone of having delivered 100 thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine.  Prisma says that, according to DHEC data, that equates to 30% of the 341,250 doses received in the state.  However—because of demand—Prisma’s available vaccine supply is described as extremely low.  For last week, Prisma requested 60 thousand doses, but received fewer than 20 thousand.  Its vaccination locations, including the Oconee Memorial Hospital, were closed through noon today due to lack of supply.  According to DHEC, South Carolina next week expects to receive an additional weekly allotment of 10 thousand Moderna vaccines, bring the state total to about 72 thousand a week.  Each vaccination site manages walk-in access as vaccine supply allow according to what is available that day.  Updates on walk-in availability are posted on Prisma Health’s web site www.PrismaHealth.org/Vaccine or are available by contacting the Prisma Health call center (1-833/2PRISMA (1-833-277-4762).
