Preventing deaths and injuries on railroad lines

Oconee Sheriff’s Office is part of this year’s “Operation Clear Track” — considered to be the largest rail-safety initiative in North America.  Coordinated by AMTRAK, Clear Track aims to reduce the number of railway crossing and trespassing incidents in the U-S and Canada.  Those incidents each year seriously hurt or kill more than 2,100 people.  The event is part of the annual Rail Safety Week September 21-27.  Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw urges all motorists to always check for trains before crossing and never stop on the track.
