Pre-trial hearing for fatal car crash defendant

Court officers say a pre-liminary hearing has been scheduled next week for the Easley man arrested after a car went out of control near Seneca and crashed into a home, killing a woman who had just gone to bed for the night. The hearing for El Asia Hassain Muhammad, scheduled Friday, August 16, is a proceeding at which the prosecution is required to present sufficient evidence to warrant binding over charges against Muhammad to the General Sessions Court. 101./WGOG NEWS has learned the defendant has retained legal counsel. He faces multiple charges, including failure to stop for a blue light and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. The victim in the late night incident July 1 was Vanessa Leanne Neimeyer. The next day a magistrate refused to set bond for Hassain, after being told that the 19-year old ran a checkpoint, sped down the Wells Highway, crossed 123, and smashed into Neimeyer’s family home across the four-lane highway.
