Polygraph useful tool, but not perfect, says Sheriff

If you become a suspect, no one can force you to take a polygraph. And if you choose to take one, the results can’t be used against you in court. Still the investigation technique that a California policeman came up with in 1935 remains a useful technique in today’s law enforcement circles. And Mike Crenshaw, the Oconee County Sheriff, defends polygraph tests and says they have been useful especially to eliminate suspects in an investigation in which officers literally have little or nothing to go on. Polygraphs are controversial because, at times, innocent people have failed the tests. Sometimes, however, an innocent person will volunteer to take a polygraph to clear his or her name.
