Police sergeant serious about stopping fraud

Eight years on the job, Mandy Tinsley’s law enforcement career with the Oconee Sheriff’s Office reached a new high today. Sgt. Tinsley received her 1,000th case of white-collar crime to investigate as lead investigator. This latest Oconee County victim saw her fraud predicament start with a phone call from someone claiming that there was an issue with her computer. It ended with the victim being out nearly 17 and a half thousand dollars. Tinsley and other investigators are working the case, but she told us: “Once a victim has bought pre-paid debit cards and given the suspect(s) the numbers on the card, there is almost NO chance I, or anyone else, can get the money back for the victim or charge anyone criminally….” Tinsley has lots of advice to help keep computer users safeguard their personal and financial information and she will impart a lot of that during our ‘Community Sound Off” to air during the noon hour on Sunday, October 6.
