Police chief feels range of emotions

“Anger, disgust, and sadness.”  They are among the emotions felt by Clemson University’s top cop in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.  Like many, Clemson University Chief of Police Greg Mullen watched the video and he has asked himself why some police officers continue to engage in behaviors that “violate human decency, devalue human life, and contradict the ethos of our profession.”  Mullen wants better communication and more involvement with the university community.  He says, “We invite members of the campus community to participate in our hiring and promotion processes, provide input on policy and procedures and share their wisdom on issues needing clarity and perspective.”  He went further by saying, “We train our officers about explicit and implicit bias and the importance of understanding differences.”
