Pipe bomb-like devices detonated at Pickens Courthouse

The Pickens City Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding two hazardous devices that were intentionally placed near a wall on the exterior of the Pickens County Courthouse on Court St in the City of Pickens. The police say the remnants of two devices which appeared to be characteristic of homemade pipe bombs were located on the side of the building near the facility’s HVAC units. The early stages of the investigation have indicated that both devices appeared to have detonated causing damage to the glass windows on the lower level of the building near the location where the devices are believed to have been placed. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15pm on Sunday, July 7, 2019 during which time the courthouse was closed and unoccupied; therefore, no injuries were sustained during the blast.
