Personal health care stressed during Labor Day weekend

So far, COVID case numbers jumped during the warm weather holiday weekends of Memorial Day and July 4.  With the coming of the Labor Day holiday weekend, a Prisma Health physician urges South Carolinians to avoid large public gatherings, to wear masks, to wash hands, and to social distance.  Prisma Health said the number of in-patients under treatment for the virus dropped from 150 last week to 110 this week, and Dr. Steve Shelton wants to see the numbers to continue to drop.  But the emergency department physician is worried about the potential for a new surge brought on by careless holiday weekend social activity choices.  Another worry on the horizon is the advent of what’s considered the season of influenza, and the potential for the flu leading to higher COVID-19 numbers.  Shelton advises everyone to get a flu shot this fall and to not delay it getting one much past the early part of October.
