Overnight and this morning in Oconee County

With temperatures at or around freezing, it’s a good idea to drive especially carefully throughout Oconee County this morning. No major weather-related problems are reported this morning; however, early morning drivers are encountering moderate-to-heavy fog in parts of the Seneca area. Oconee public schools are closed for a second day. There is one change from district administration. Because temperatures are forecast to rise today (to 55 degrees,) extra-curricular school activities are permitted today and tonight. By late last night, 273 Oconee customers remained without power in the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative Service area. Around 9 to 10 last night, crews were able to restore service to 117 locations. The bulk of the hundreds of linemen planned to resume work at 5:30 this morning, and the goal is to have all outages in Blue Ridge’s five-county area cleared up by the end of the day today. Oconee County solid waste recycling centers, landfill, and transfer station will open at 8:30 this morning. Rosa Clark Medical Clinic, on the grounds of Oconee Memorial Hospital, will open its doors at 10 o’clock.
