Overall violent crimes decreased during ’17 in South Carolina

A report from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division shows that the rates for overall violent crimes dropped slightly in the state in 2017, while property crimes also dropped when compared to the previous year. The report details crime activities for all South Carolina counties, covering murder, rape, property crime, etc. In 2017 in Oconee there were 205 violent crimes in the county, and approximately six out of every 10 violent crimes were solved or cleared in the vernacular of law enforcement. There were four cases of Oconee County murders in that year. Unsolved from that year was the case of widow Joann McCarthy, found dead in her Creekwood Lane home November 26, 2017 between n. highway 11 and Little Country Lane. Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw spoke out today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS on the 2017 numbers—especially how they compare Oconee to other Upstate counties.
