“Operation Rocket Fuel” snares 26

Law enforcement officials say wiretaps are a tool rarely used to bring criminal charges in South Carolina, but they helped make 26 indictments affecting Oconee County residents in a heroin and methamphetamine operation called “Rocket Fuel”.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, along with State Attorney General Alan Wilson, this afternoon made the announcement that the streets have been cleared of 26 people who allegedly took part in a drug trafficking conspiracy that brought illegal drugs into Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.  Those drugs, according to authorities, had their origins with the Mexican and South American cartels that crossed into the U-S and eventually arranged for the drugs to be distributed north from Atlanta. Crenshaw confided that one person indicted has since died of a drug overdose.
