“One of a kind home” fetches $500k in Walhalla

Word is spreading thru Walhalla that one of the city’s stately homes has changed hands for what appears to be a record-high amount for a house sale inside the county seat.  It’s the large home that sits on E. Main and S. John streets, listed by Clardy Real Estate’s Alicia Keys.  It went for $515 thousand, says Keys, and went fast.  Which is not surprising because it’s considered a one of a kind.  Interest from all corners intensified with a video walk-thru that people could view the large house.  “When we listed it we thought that it would bring a lot of curiosity but we had no idea it would have people calling from all over the country,” Keys told 101.7/WGOG NEWS.  The home was under contract within two days, she said.  It’s not the only home that is fetching big offers.  There are reports of a couple of others attracting prices of $300 and $400 thousand.  Walhalla’s actions to revitalize the downtown and its attractiveness as a place that offers a quieter pace of life are attributes that realtor Keys says are also in play.  Riley Johnson, Seneca events coordinator, recently told the Oconee Planning Commission that an Indiana man who ran the city’s half marathon was so impressed with what he found that he capped his visit by buying a lake home for $1.1 million.
