On the trail for development, with ag on his mind

A report given last night by Oconee’s economic development recruiter indicates Jamie Gilbert, hot on the trail of employers to create jobs, is mindful of the role agriculture plays, along with consideration that the pursuit of economic development should not conflict farmers’ ability to make a living.  Gilbert expressed to the county council that, as the county works to develop the empty Golden Corner Commerce Park at Fair Play and fill the mostly empty side of I-85 in the county, he is mindful of worries in the southern end of the county, the heart of county agriculture.  Kim Alexander followed Gilbert by reporting what a series of the comments that the county’s advisory agriculture committee has gleaned from a series of public feedback meetings.  She also requested the county fathers to allow the ag committee to be a player in the game of pursuing economic development.
