Olvera v. City of Walhalla et al — settled

A lawsuit that alleged excessive force by Walhalla police officers has been settled, according to an order filed last week by a federal judge.  The filing last week in U-S District Court, signed by Judge Joseph Dawson III, states that the case against Walhalla and two officers has been settled without prejudice, a legal term meaning that a new lawsuit may be brought on the same cause of action.  Dawson’s order does not explain the terms of settlement, although it provides that if the settlement is not consummated in 60 days, either party may petition the court to re-open the action and restore it to the court calendar. Police Chief Sean Brinson says an announcement about the end of the case will be made by Walhalla’s attorneys.
