Ola Gibson

Westminster- Ola Deaton Gibson, 82, wife of David M. Gibson, passed away May 10th, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

 

A native of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Foster Wyatt and Lillian Fannie Keasler Deaton. She was a graduate of Fair Play High School and was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. Ola worked at Harpers 5 & 10, and later retired from the fabric department at Walmart in Seneca. Ola enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid youth basketball player where she received scholarships and bowling. Ola treasured her family dearly; she especially loved her role as Mama Ola. She was loved for her wit and always making people smile. Ola made friends everywhere and always made people laugh.  Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in God forgave you in Christ.”

 

Ola is survived by her loving husband, David M. Gibson of 64 years; daughters, Sandra Mabry and husband, Skip of Westminster, Annette Underwood and husband Ron of Walhalla, and Margaret Blake and husband Keith of Garner, North Carolina; six grandchildren, “Jody” Clifton Mabry IV (Sheila) of Westminster, Adam Mabry (Tosha) of Walhalla, Aaron Underwood of Walhalla; Kimberly Hunt, Eugene Hunt, and Tyler Hunt all of Wendell, North Carolina; and five great grandchildren, Hunter Mabry of Walhalla, Carly Mabry of Westminster, Andy Butts of Westminster, Brayden Webb and Zaykon Webb of Walhalla; and a nephew, Rodney Cole of Westminster.

 

In addition to her parents, Ola is preceded in death by her sister, Betty Ann Deaton Cole.

 

A Funeral Service will be held 3pm, Saturday, May 15th, 2021 at Beaverdam Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:30pm – 3:00pm, prior to the service at Beaverdam Baptist Church.
