Official: Oakway and Fair Play work on DOT’s radar

An official at a regional government service agency says major intersection improvements in the Oconee County rural communities of Oakway and Fair Play are on the radar of the South Carolina DOT. We spoke to transportation planner Lance Estep of the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments who says improvements at SC 24 and 182 at Oakway and at SC 59, 182, and 243 in Fair Play are worth keeping an eye on. Especially the possibility of a roundabout at Oakway where, in recent years, a Dollar General has been added along with expanded headquarters for the Pioneer Rural Water District. The Fair Play intersection sits in the heart of that community and sits opposite Yoder’s Builder’s Supply. There, Estep says, the DOT is in the preliminary engineering phase of that project with the possibility that improvements there could start by 2021-22.
