Oconee’s 123 starting to resemble Woodruff Road?

As Adam Chapman looks to the future, he doesn’t rule out that  parts of U-S 123 in Oconee County will someday take on volumes of traffic congestion resembling the nightmare that Greenville County’s Woodruff Road is known for.  That is, unless Oconee acts to reduce hazardous conditions encountered by the driving public in sections such as 123 from Seneca and Clemson and at the west end Seneca intersection at Wells Highway and Sheep Farm Road.  Chapman is the staff member responsible for county planning, and he met this week with the county council’s planning and economic development committee.  During a discussion of architectural design elements on highway corridors, the discussion centered on curb cuts which at least a couple of county councilmen believe lead to frequent fender bender car accidents.  The business community that eyes 123 for development often pushes for DOT approval for curb cuts to allow customers to drive in and out of stores and restaurants.
