Oconeeans take advantage of early voting

The numbers of Oconeeans taking advantage of the permission to vote absentee in next month’s primary elections are growing, as concerns remain over the potential for the COVID-19 virus to spread.  Many who make up the senior citizen segment of the county electorate already routinely swell the absentee voting numbers, but many others are opting to avoid the election day lines and close contact with others by voting early.  And Joy Scharich, the county elections director, says they are doing that by either coming to the Pine Street offices and vote there or apply for an absentee ballot to vote by the U-S  mail.  By this morning, 2,600 county voters had started the two-step process to vote through the mail.
