Oconeean’s death added to the COVID-19 count

Across South Carolina, 2,208 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were announced today by the state health agency.  DHEC reported 22 new deaths, including that of an elderly Oconeean who died on Sunday, the 27th.  Of the new cases, 47 were from Oconee County.  Of 8,139 test results received statewide, the positivity was 27.1%.  Some other COVID-19 development reported today:  By today, South Carolina had received more than 112 thousand doses of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.  A total of 31,511 doses have been administered to phase 1a individuals, with shots continuing to be administered each day.  Their second shot will come from a future allocation of vaccine that’s specifically being held by the federal government as the second dose for those individuals, to ensure they receive both required doses.  By Sunday (the 27th) South Carolina had received 84,500 doses of Moderna vaccine that are allocated to the CDC’s Long-Term Care Program.  An update is to soon be available on the vaccine given to those in the state’s long-term care facilities.
