Oconeean loses life to COVID-19

An Oconee County resident is among the latest two South Carolinians to die from COVID-19, according to the state health agency report this afternoon.  The death June 28 was that of an elderly resident.  The other South Carolina death was that of a middle aged  Richland County resident on June 30. New cases of the virus that reflect the count by the end of the day Monday numbered 101.  There were no new Oconee cases.  Of 2,243 test results received, the positivity jumped to 5.6%.  This afternoon a DHEC doctor said the state is very close to having 50% — or one-half — of state residents eligible for the vaccine as having taken at least one vaccine shot.  Dr. Jane Kelley calls this a great accomplishment for South Carolina.
