Oconee workforce regains its footing?

For the week ended Saturday, August 29, the number of Oconeeans filing first-time claims for unemployment fell again.  This time, from 82 the week before to 50 for the latest seven-day period.  The state showed a a similar decrease.  And it prompted Dan Ellzey, director of Employment and Workforce, to say:  “We have reached a new low in weekly initial claims filed since the pandemic began in mid-March.”  And he added:  “As the numbers continue to decline, it’s logically expected that the downward trend week-over-week will become less significant as the economy continues to improve.”
