Oconee virtual learning meets state criteria

The Oconee School District is one of 33 public school districts in South Carolina whose virtual learning program was approved by the state Board of Education for the new school year—2021-22.  Oconee’s met enrollment criteria set by the General Assembly and guidelines of the state board that were derived from similar regulations covering virtual charter schools.  Dr. Kristi Woodall, the state board chairwoman, said, “While all South Carolina schools are rightly prioritizing full, in-person instruction this upcoming school year, we know families in some communities were able to successfully navigate virtual learning and would like the option to continue.” A proviso attached to the new general appropriations bill caps traditional virtual enrollment at 5% of a district’s total student population.
