Oconee to consider its own medical examiner/forensic pathologist

At their meeting next week, Oconee County Council will be asked to consider adding another professional to the investigation of deaths in the county.  Coroner Karl Addis recommends $65 thousand a year (no benefits included) to employ a medical examiner/forensic pathologist.  According to the county council office, “extenuating circumstances” make it not in the county’s best interests to renew an inter-government agreement with three other counties in the region for medical examiner services for the coroners of their counties.  Addis tells 101.7/WGOG NEWS that a medical examiner and forensic pathologist would conduct autopsies and exams, help complete death reports and consult with his staff as well as law enforcement.
