Oconee Sheriff addresses Wal-Mart mask policy
Wal-Mart next week becomes another of major American stores to require facial coverings for everyone inside their buildings. The company has more than five thousand U-S locations, and one is located near Seneca on the Sandifer Boulevard. On a day last week when we looked, many customers at the Seneca store shopped without wearing face coverings. The start of the mandatory policy could well be something some Wal-Mart customers will dislike. The enforcement of the rule will be left to Wal-Mart, according to Mike Crenshaw, Oconee County Sheriff. But county deputies will respond if there’s a disturbance as the result of someone refusing to wear a mask. Crenshaw also says, “A reminder to our citizens that Wal-Mart is private property and they can require someone to wear a mask inside their business the same as the hospital or any other private entity. If someone refuses and is asked to leave, they could face trespassing charges or if a disturbance occurs, someone could be charged with breach of peace.”
