Oconee’s share of SC road paving to exceed $6 million

As the result of the increasing state gas tax, South Carolina will pump millions of dollars into Oconee County road work during 2019-20. The statewide pavement program to cover the next 12 months approved last week by the DOT Commission includes five Oconee County projects worth nearly $4 million. Those projects include work on SC 11 and the Wells Highway near Seneca. “In addition,” says DOT spokesman Pete Poore, “another $500,000 in paving projects will be added to Oconee County’s list in the next several months. These SCDOT paving funds are in addition to the estimated $1.7 million in (new) gas tax funds that are allocated to the Oconee Transportation Committee (CTC) for road projects.” New gas tax revenues will also provide Oconee with 28 paving projects to be funded by $17 million in new gas taxes. Those projects will touch state roads, streets, and highways throughout the county.
