Oconee sets Memorial Day ceremony

This year’s Oconee Memorial Day ceremony is set for a week from today. It will take place at noon Monday, May 28 in the Walhalla Center for Performing Arts, formerly called Walhalla Civic Auditorium. Jerry Dyar, public information officer for the Oconee Veterans Council, says, as always, the ceremony pays tribute to the 210 Oconee service members who paid the highest sacrifice dating back to the First World War and thru current times. Family members and friends of the deceased will be recognized during the ceremony. Tom Von Kaenel, president of the Keowee Chapter of the Military Officers Association, will serve as moderator. Auditorium doors will be open at 11 am. The ladies of the Walhalla DAR chapter will provide refreshments immediately after the ceremony.
