Oconee records first case

South Carolina DHEC is now investigating 103 additional cases, including the first confirmed Oconee County case.  In its announcement yesterday, the state health agency gave no details of the Oconeean’s case. Now 34 counties have recorded a total of 298 cases.  A DHEC physician said, “We encourage the public to focus on things that each of us can do to limit the spread of illness by washing your hands, covering your mouth when you cough, and practicing social distancing.”  The 103 additional cases cover two days of lab tests.  Besides the simple precautions just mentioned, DHEC urges everyone to take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to the news and following social media.  Take care of your body, try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals; exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep; and avoid alcohol and drugs.  Make time to unwind and take part in activities you enjoy.  Connect with others.  Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.  Individuals with signs of illness are asked to stay at home and not attend public gatherings.  South Carolinians are encouraged to monitor for symptoms, practice social distancing, avoid touching frequently touched items such as doorknobs and handrails, and regularly wash hands, especially after being in a public place.  Anyone with concerns about their health should reach out to their healthcare provider.
