Oconee projects part of the DOT plan for 2020-21

South Carolina DOT plans to spend an extra $562 million in road pavement and resurfacing projects for the coming 2020-21.  Seven Oconee County reconstructions projects are included in what will be year four of a 10-year plan to rebuild the state’s roads.  To help generate the monies to pay for the work, the gas pump tax is being raised by two cents. The following Oconee state highways and streets are to see work during the next 12 months:  nearly four miles of Highway 11; Keowee River Road, Walhalla’s ES Broad Street; and Mountain View Drive and W. South 4th Street in Seneca.  According to the DOT, paving projects are prioritized in the same manner used to rank all projects–based on safety and crash data, the condition and age of roads, and traffic information.  Commission Chairman Tony Cox says, “The Commission and SCDOT are committed to full transparency in how projects are selected and considered.
