Oconee has no designs on a rural church

Oconee County has no intentions of ever condemning and relocating the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and county officials will put that in writing. The County Council approved on Tuesday the drafting of a letter to church’s leaders to that effect. County officials intend the letter should put to rest any recent misunderstandings and rumors that arose recently in connection with the relocation of the Mt. Nebo Road that runs by the church near the  Shiloh Road. The county has contracted to relocate part of the road as part of a roughly $3.5 million expansion project that will see the paved apron expanded for additional plane parking space. The road relocation is necessary to comply with Federal Aviation Administration requirements regarding the height of aircraft takeoff and landing approach lanes above vehicle traffic flow.
